New Delhi: The drama over alleged recovery of huge amount of cash from a senior Delhi High Court judge’s home continued all day.
In the latest twist to the tale, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg claimed on Friday evening that the firefighters had found no cash while dousing flames at the official residence of Justice Yashwant Varma last week.
“The control room received a call about a blaze at Varma’s Lutyens Delhi residence at 11.35 pm on March 14 and two fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot,” Garg told PTI.
“Fire tenders reached the spot at 11.43 pm. The fire was in a store room stocked with stationery and domestic articles,” Garg said.
It took firefighters 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.
“Soon after dousing the flames, we informed police about the fire incident. Thereafter, a team of fire department personnel left the spot. Our fire fighters did not find any cash during their firefighting operation,” the DFS chief said.
This morning, Congress demanded immediate discussion on judicial accountability in the Rajya Sabha after it was reported that a huge pile of cash had been discovered at Justice Varma’s home during an incident of fire.
Following reports of Justice Varma being transferred by the Supreme Court to Allahabad High Court, there were protests by the bar association of the latter. The top court then clarified that there was a proposal to transfer Justice Varma, but it hasn’t been finalised yet.
