Tokyo: A 29-year-old man has pleaded guilty to murdering nine people in Japan after contacting them through Twitter.
Dubbed the ‘Twitter killer’, Takahiro Shiraishi confessed in a Tokyo court that allegations against him are “all correct,” reported BBC News.
He had been arrested in 2017 after body parts were found in his flat.
If convicted, Takahiro faces death penalty, which means he will be hanged.
So how did it all unfold?
The prosecution claim that Takahiro opened a Twitter account in March 2017 to contact “women contemplating suicide, whom he saw as easy targets,” public broadcaster NHK said.
Eight of his victims were women, one of whom was 15 years old.
The lone male victim was killed when he confronted Takahiro about the whereabouts of his girlfriend.
Takahiro told his victims he could help them die. His Twitter profile said: “I want to help people who are really in pain. Please DM (direct message) me anytime.”
The serial killings were revealed when police were looking into the disappearance of a young woman, who later turned out to be one of the victims.
