New Delhi: The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Data Protection is not satisfied with social media giant Twitter’s response on the Leh-China controversy.

The panel of MPs labelled the microblogging site’s explanation as “inadequate” on showing Ladakh as China’s territory.

Twitter India officials were questioned  by the committee following the outrage over Twitter’s location settings showing Leh as part of China, reported NDTV.

The panel’s chairman BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi told NDTV that the committee unanimously found Twitter’s explanation as inadequate. “Showing Ladakh as part of China amounts to a criminal offence which can attract jail for up to seven years,” she asserted.

Briefing about the tech giant’s response, Lekhi told NDTV that Twitter executives said they respect the sensitivities of India on this issue. “But this is inadequate. It is not just a question of sensitivity. It is against the sovereignty and integrity of India,” she added.
