New Delhi: Days after its location tag in a live broadcast showed Leh and Jammu and Kashmir as part of China, Twitter on Thursday tendered a verbal apology to a joint parliamentary committee on personal data protection, news agency ANI reported.
Showing strong displeasure, the committee had asked the micro-blogging site to tender a written apology and submit an affidavit in the matter.
Acknowledging the apology, a Twitter spokesperson said they remained committed to working with the Indian government and that they respected the sensitivities involved.
Earlier, the Centre had conveyed its “strong disapproval” to Twitter for showing Leh as part of China and warned the micro-blogging giant against disrespecting the integrity and sovereignty of India.
In a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on October 22, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had reminded him that Leh is the headquarters of Ladakh and that both Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are “integral and inalienable parts of India, governed by the Constitution of India”.
