Bhubaneswar: Four days after two friends were stabbed to death at Kalayani Plaza near Hitech Apartment under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the double-murder late on Saturday.
The arrested have been identified as Ganesh Mallick (34) and Pradeep Mallick (39), both residents of Kuha under Airfield police limits. Weapon of offence, a knife and a motorcycle, which they used to flee from the spot have been sized, police sources said.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said that the two fled soon after committing the crime. Ganesh went into hiding in Chandikhole and Pradeep in Puri. “Airfield police cracked the case and arrested the duo last night using all modern techniques of investigation, analysing CCTV footage, CDR analysis, studying the previous enmity and engaging reliable sources,” he said.
He further said that the scientific team has collected the apparels of accused persons and other biological exhibits and evidence.
Elaborating on the incident, the DCP said that there was a squabble between the deceased, Rashmiranjan Sethi and Sambit Kumar Rout, and Ganesh, who was recently assigned the parking responsibility at Kalyani Plaza after the former parked his four wheeler at Annex Block-5 on August 7. “Ganesh call his associate Pradeep and they both attacked Rashmiranjan and Sambit with a big knife. Rashmiranjan was stabbed in the chest, leading to his death. They also stabbed his friend, Sambit, when he intervened. The accused also assaulted Rashmiranjan’s father when he tried to save him,” he said.
