Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested two persons for allegedly looting people on the plea of giving them lift in their car from the capital city.
According to police sources, after two similar cases were filed at Saheednagar police station within a week, the Commissionerate Police formed a special squad to nab the miscreants. The investigation by the squad into the cases led them to arrest the two persons.
While one of the arrested persons belongs to Chandbali in Balasore, his accomplice is from Jajpur district. The police have not revealed their identity as further investigation is on to ascertain involvement of other persons. The police have also seized a car from their possession.
Speaking on the modus operandi of the miscreants, the police said they used to target the people coming in long distance buses and trains. They would wait in their car in the lookout for their target at bus stands and railway station in the city. If they found anybody desperately looking for a transport to go out of the city, they would offer him lift in their car.
While travelling in the car, the miscreants would befriend the passenger and offer him soft drink laced with intoxicant. After he would become unconscious, they used to loot the valuables and cash from him and drop him on roadside.
On February 3, a youth from Kendrapada filed a complaint at Saheednagar police station stating that he was given by the miscreants at Master Canteen square and looted Rs 75,000 from him after he lost sense on drinking the soft drink. Two days back, a man from Angul, who was looted in similar fashion, had also filed the complaint at the police station.
