Malkangiri: Two students of an ashram school at Kolaganda village under Podia block in Odisha’s Malkangiri district reportedly died of an undiagnosed disease in the past two days.
The condition of six other students, who are undergoing treatment with similar symptoms, is said to be critical.
According to media reports, the two students who died had swelling in their legs following which they were admitted to the Podia Community Health Centre (CHC).
After their condition deteriorated, one of the students was sent home. He died on August 28.
The other student died at the CHC on August 29.
Of the six students under treatment, three are admitted to the Podia CHC. The rest three were referred to the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after their condition worsened.
The Malkangiri ADM, administration and health officials visited the school to take stock of the situation.
The district administration has decided to shift all students to other schools temporarily and ordered for sanitisation of classrooms, hostel rooms and school premises.
