Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Saturday apprehended two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) of Odisha Police while allegedly accepting bribe in Cuttack and Nabarangpur districts.
According to a Vigilance release, Alok Kumar Sarangi, an ASI posted at Bhadreswar police station in Cuttack district, was caught taking Rs 8,000. He had demanded the illegal gratification to help a person in a case earlier registered at the police station.
Similarly, ASI of Nabarangpur’s Dabugaon police station Simanchal Moharana was nabbed while taking Rs 5000 from a person to show leniency and to help him in a case registered at the police station. He allegedly threw the bribe money in the Malkaha, where seized goods etc are kept in police stations, on seeing the Vigilance sleuths.
While cases have been registered against the ASIs under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (amendment) Act, 2018, simultaneous searches are also being conducted on properties linked to them to ascertain whether they had accumulated asset disproportionate to their know sources of income.
