Bhubaneswar: After a week-long near dry spell, Odisha is likely to receive heavy rain in the next 24 hours, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Briefing the media on Saturday, senior scientist, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, Umashankar Das said while the eastern part of the monsoon trough continues to pass through Gorakhpur, Muzzafarpur, Shanti Niketan, Haldia and to the north-east Bay of Bengal, the cyclonic circulation lies over west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast and another cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha and neighbourhood persists.
Besides, there is a northsouth trough from the above cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha and neighbourhood to the north Tamil Nadu, he said.
“Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the south and north coastal and north interior districts in the next 24 hours. Apart from this, there will be thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places,” Das added.
In view of the heavy rainfall, yellow warnings have been sounded for the following districts.
August 14
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur.
August 15
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada.
August 16
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh.
August 17
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Balangir.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Boudh, Sonepur, Jajpur, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
August 18
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Jharsuguda.
