Two Cyclonic Circulations To Bring Heavy Rain In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely to lash the northern coasts of Odisha – Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajapur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack- in the next 24 hours with a cyclonic circulation active along the Andhra Pradesh coast and another expected to enter the Bay of Bengal by Saturday.

On October 2, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal will experience heavy falls along with the coast districts, Umashankar Dash, senior scientist of the regional meteorological centre here, told the media.

In the subsequent 24 hours, coastal and interior districts of the state may receive heavy rainfall, he said, adding that no forecast has been made on further intensification of the system, which is likely to move towards north-east Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood.

“The influence of these cyclonic circulations will mostly be felt in North Odisha on October 3,” he said.

Coastal districts, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, are likely to see a cloudy sky and experience intermittent heavy spells (2 to 3 cm/hour) from October 2, Dash said.

There will be little change in the weather condition on October 4, he added.

The MeT office has issued heavy rainfall warning for one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore and Puri on October 1. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal in the subsequent 24 hours.

On October 3, Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur and Puri. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh, Ganjam, GajapatiKeonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Kalahandi, it added.
