Hyderabad: Two days after being granted bail in the Prophet Muhammad derogatory comment case, suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh was arrested again on Thursday in connection with two previous cases.
The Telangana lawmaker will be sent to Cherlapally Central prison after medical examination.
Telangana Police served T Raja a notice today over cases registered against him in February and April this year.
The February complaint against T Raja was for allegedly making objectionable statements in a video circulating on various media platforms. The complaint alleged that the remarks were “utterly irresponsible and intimidating to the voters that have the undertone and propensity to undue influence the elections in the state of Uttar Pradesh and thereby violating the provisions incorporated in Indian Penal Code 1860 and Representation of the People Act 1951.”
In April, another complaint was filed against T Raja for allegedly making a provocative speech during a procession.
“During the shoba yatra procession, Raja Singh addressed the gathering and made statements which were provocative in nature with intent to create or promote feelings of enmity and hatred between the different religious communities,” the complainant claimed.
“T Raja Singh is a habitual offender and should be sent to jail. He should not be granted bail,” India Today quoted AIMIM leader Waris Pathan as saying.
“The BJP is trying to destroy the secular fabric of our nation and see what has happened. T Raja, who was arrested for derogatory remarks against the Prophet, was granted bail within hours. What we demand is that such types of hate-mongers, why should he be allowed to roam free?” he said.
Raja released a video on Monday in which he criticises stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, who recently performed in Hyderabad. The BJP MLA also purportedly made some anti-Islam comments. The saffron party wasted no party in suspended him.
Arrested after a case was lodged against him over alleged derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad, Raja was released with a warning.
