Bengaluru: Two persons were killed after a Mercedes, being driven at high speed, crashed into a divider on Bengaluru’s Satellite Town Ring Road in the wee hours of Saturday.
The police have identified the victims as 30-year-old Rizwan, a married man and father of two children, and his 28-year-old friend
Sajjiya. Rizwan had picked up Sajjiya and the two were returning from Devanahalli when the accident occurred on a bridge near Hoskote around 12.45 am, officials said, as reported by IANS.
The Mercedes being driven by Rizwan was owned by one of his clients. The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled.
While Rizwan was thrown out of the vehicle through the sunroof and fell into a nearby drain, Sajjiya was flung onto the road. Rizwan’s body was later recovered from the drain after an extensive search operation, NDTV reported.
While a detailed investigation is underway, preliminary findings suggest that the car was being driven at high speed at the time of the accident. Overspeeding may have been a major factor behind the crash, the police suspect.
Available evidence, including CCTV footage from the expressway and nearby areas, is being reviewed by the police to reconstruct the sequence of events.
