Nabarangpur: Celebrations on the eve of Raksha Bandhan on Sunday took a tragic turn for a family when three members died after reportedly consuming contaminated country cakes. The incident took place at Haldi village of Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district.
Laxmi Harijan died on Sunday evening after consuming the cakes brought by a relative on the occasion of Rakhi, while her brother-in-law Diband Harijan and two daughters were rushed to Umerkote hospital when they complained of acute stomach ache and vomiting.
Diband, a Class IX student, died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital and later one among the two girls succumbed.
Police sources said samples of the food item was sent for test and the body of Laxmi dug out from her grave this morning for postmortem to know the exact cause of the death.
