Rayagada: Two youths drowned during the Boita Bandana ceremony in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Tuesday.
According to reports, one Suman Behera of Muniguda and an engineering student of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Institute of Technology (UGMIT) had gone with his friends for Boita Bandana near Jhulapola on the bank of Nagabali river. While sailing boats, he slipped into the deep waters and was swept away by the strong current.
Following information, the Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out his body after a two-hour search operation.
In another incident in Gunupur, one Santosh Jena of Gumuda had gone to Bansadhara river for Boita Bandana. However, he drowned after he was pushed into the deep waters. His body was later recovered by the Fire Brigade personnel from a ghat area near Mariguda village.
