Keonjhar: Two elephants were killed and another seriously injured after they were hit by two speeding trucks on NH-20 at Balijodi under Ghatagan Forest Range in Odisha’s Keonjhar district late on Wednesday.
According to reports, a herd of about 10 elephants was crossing the National Highway at Balijodi late in the night when a speeding truck hit them and overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle. In the meantime, another truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into the herd and fled the spot.
While a female elephant and a calf died on the spot, another female elephant sustained grievous injury.
Following information, the forest staff of Ghatagan Range rushed to the spot and detained the helper of the overturned truck.
Talking to the media, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Keonjhar, Santosh Joshi said the postmortem of the two elephants will be conducted while necessary treatment will be provided to the injured elephant.
