Jeypore: Police on Saturday arrested two fake Maoists in Jeypore of Koraput district.
The accused have been identified as Santosh Swain, a lecturer of an engineering college at Phampuni in the district, and Amir Behera, an employee of Utkal Gramya Bank.
According to sources, the duo used to extort money from contractors by posing themselves as Maoists. They used to even threaten to torch vehicles engaged in construction work, if the contractors failed to cough up the amount.
Acting on a tip-off regarding their presence in the locality, a police team laid a trap and managed to nab them.
On June 23, a fake Maoist, Abdul Gaffar Ahamed, was arrested at Nayakote in Keonjhar district. The accused had threatened the managing director of Ardent Steel factory to pay an amount of Rs 3 crore under the garb Maoist.
