Bhubaneswar: Two young friends drowned while taking bath in a river in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Wednesday. While one of them was found dead, the other person remained untraced.
According to sources, 24-year-old Jyoti Ranjan Padhi of Pattamundai in Kendrapada district had come with his friend Abhijit Patra (22) of Bhubaneswar on a visit to his relative’s house at Nanpur near Balichandrapur in Jajpur district.
The two friends went to take bath in Birupa river in the afternoon. While bathing, both of them were driven by a strong current into deep water and drowned.
Later, Jyoti’s relatives and villagers came to know about the incident and started searching for the duo in the river. They managed to find Abhijit and brought him to the river bank. But he was already dead.
As the villagers could not trace Jyoti, they informed the Fire services for help. The Fire personnel started a search operation. But they had failed to find Jyoti till the report as filed.
