Bhubaneswar: Chhattisgarh Police has arrested two persons from Odisha for allegedly smuggling diamonds worth Rs 20 lakh.
The accused smugglers, identified as Jokho Ram (56) and Vikas Majhi (25) of Nuapada district, were involved in sending the precious stones to other parts of the country.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted raids in Jadapadar village under Mainpur police station and arrested the duo. As many as 125 diamond pieces of different sizes and a weighing machine were seized from the two.
Police said the accused were smuggling from the diamond-rich belt of Gariaband’s Deobhog area in Chhattisgarh and selling those in different states.
After registering a case against the arrested, police have launched an investigation into the matter.
