Nagpur: Around 951 gram (81 tola) of gold worth around Rs 38.12 lakh was recovered from a thief, Prashant Kumar Karad of Odisha, who was arrested last week for his alleged involvement in over 16 burglaries and thefts in the city.
He was nabbed while stealing from a house in Trimurti Nagar.
His accomplice Shrikant Sethi, who was helping him to dispose of the valuables, was arrested from Odisha after cops traced his location through mobile phone network towers, the TOI reported.
According to police, Karad admitted to committing around seven thefts at Trimurti Nagar, Jaripatka, Beltarodi and other places. He would hand over the stolen gold to Sethi, who sold it to bullion traders in and around Odisha at low cost.
Karad and Sethi are in police custody.
