Bhubaneswar: Officials of Odisha Fire Service on Monday sealed two marriage halls of New Marrion Hotel located on Janpath here, citing lack of safety and comprehensive fire safety measures.
The marriage halls namely Myntra Nirvana and The Sapphire were sealed during a fire safety audit, which revealed that highly combustible and inflammable materials were used in the ceiling and wall of both these halls. Besides, it was also found that the entry/exit staircases to the halls were not of adequate width, thereby preventive escape in case of requirement of evacuation.
Similar raids were also conducted at 25 other shopping malls, jewellery shops and hotels by 13 different teams.
According to fire department sources, the inspection broadly revealed that many shopping malls, jewellery shops and hotels do not have complete and comprehensive fire safety measures. In some places, fixed fire fighting installations/fire extinguishers are available but a few other equipment needs to be installed. Good housing keeping, which plays a vital role in fire safety, was not found. It was also revealed that many establishments do not have adequate exit signages to lead the occupants to places of safety in case of any emergency.
Notices shall be served to the defaulting malls, shops and other establishments asking them to fulfil the short comings within a specified time period, the sources added.
