Two Hardcore Criminals Injured In Police Encounter

Cuttack: Two hardcore criminals were injured in an encounter with police at Chauliaganj area in Cuttack on Thursday.

The criminals have been identified as Kala Babu and Alekh Routray. They were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

Alekh sustained bullet injuries on both of his legs, while Kala received bullet injury on his right leg.

A police officer was also injured during the exchange of fire.  Both the criminals are members of Kendrapara-based notorious gangster Tito’s gang.

Following a tip-off regarding the criminal’s presence, a police team raided the area. Seeing the police, the duo opened fire at them. As police retaliated back, they received bullet injuries, following which the cops overpowered them.

“The criminals are involved in attack on suspected Al-Qaeda Indian Sub-Continent (AQIS) operative Abdur Rehman’s brother Tahir. Tahir was shot at in Jagatpur area on March 28. A number of criminal cases are pending against the criminals at different police stations of the state”, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh informed.
