Cuttack: Choudwar Police have arrested two persons on charges of selling a fake gold bar for Rs 5 lakh to a businessman, Sujit Kumar Maharana, in the area.
The arrested have been identified as Bijay Behera of Tala Bazaar and Sangram Mohanta, a native of Bihar’s Samastipur currently residing at OTM Colony in Choudwar. A fake gold bar, weighing 900 grams, Rs 1,45 lakh and two mobile phones have been seized from their possession.
According to the complainant, Behera and Mohanty approached him with some gold bars and even gave him sample pieces for testing. Following which, he ordered for a gold bar, which was delivered to him on October 26.
While checking the quality of the gold bar again, Maharana realised that he had been duped by the duo.
“Others involved in the fraud case will be nabbed soon,” informed Choudwar police, station IIC Biranchi Narayan Pati.
