Two Indians Feature In List Of Finalists For Global Teacher Prize

Bhubanesawar: Two Indians have been shortlisted as finalists for the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2021 for their “true dedication and excellence in the field of teaching”.

The two teachers are Meghana Musunuri from Hyderabad and Satyam Mishra from Bhagalpur. Their names were among 8,000 nominations from 121 countries for the $1-million Global Teachers Prize, which is organised by Varkey Foundation in partnership with UNESCO.

Musunuri, who teaches English, maths and social studies, was described as an education futurist, philanthropist and passionate entrepreneur as the founder and chairperson of Fountainhead Global School and Junior College. She is also Hyderabad Champion for Google’s Women Entrepreneurs on The Web (WEOW).

On the other hand, Mishra was shortlisted for his determination to change the way children look at the world. He uses innovative multiplication tricks to bring mathematics alive for students.

The winners will be chosen by Global Teacher Prize Academy and Global Student Prize Academy. The winners will be awarded at a ceremony in Paris this November.

Last year, Ranjitsinh Disale, a government school teacher from Paritewadi in Maharashtra, made history by only wining the Global Teachers Prize. Disale created news when he decided to share half of his Rs 7.4 crore prize amount with the other nine finalists to support the “incredible work of the change makers”.
