Bhawanipatna: Two passengers including a woman were killed and 38 others injured, 11 of them seriously, when a Jeypore-bound private express bus from Bhubaneswar fell off a bridge near Jolko near Kesinga town in Odisha’s Kalahandi district in the wee hours of Monday.
Following information, a team of Kesinga police rushed to the spot and rescued all the passengers from the bus and admitted them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kesinga from where 11 passengers were shifted to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla where their condition is stated to be critical.
According to reports, the private bus Sri Jagannath (OD-05-M-6721) had left Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening and was scheduled to reach Jeypore in Koraput district on Monday morning. However, the incident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle at a U-turn which overturned and fell off a bridge.
Of the two deceased, one has been identified as Arun Kumar Dey while the identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained.
The bodies, kept at the CHC at Kesinga, will be handed over to the family members after the post-mortem later in the day, police said.
