Berhampur: At least two employees of a borewell drilling vehicle were killed and five others critically injured after the vehicle overturned in Nimakhandi area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near a hatchery at Jhadankuli village when the borewell drilling vehicle was moving through t
he stretch.
Sources said the mishap took place after the driver of the vehicle attempted to avoid hitting a cyclist who suddenly came in front. He reportedly lost control over the wheels in the process, leading the vehicle to overturn.
The driver was trapped beneath the overturned vehicle and died on the spot. Another worker also succumbed to injuries. The deceased have been identified as Rabi Naik and Shivaji Kanhar.
Five injured persons, including the cyclist, were rescued from the accident site by locals and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
