Two Killed, 5 Injured After Vehicle Falls Off Bridge

Bhawanipatna: Two persons died and five others seriously injured after a vehicle in which they were travelling fell off a bridge near Khairmal in Odisha’s Kalahandi district in the wee hours on Sunday.

Sources said a bridegroom party from Raipur in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh was on the way to Bhawanipatna in a Scorpio SUV for a marriage at Arakabahalipada village when the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell off a bridge near Khairmal on Bhawanipatna-Khadial road under Sadar Police Station limits.

While two persons died on the spot, five others were seriously injured.

Following information, Khadial police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the district headquarters hospital where the condition of the three injured are stated to be critical.

The bodies have been identified as Mohan Sunani, the father, and Chandra Behera, the uncle of the bridegroom.

The bridegroom in the meanwhile has arrived at Arakabahalipada.
