Bhubaneswar: Two persons died after an ‘Ama Bus’ rammed into an auto-rickshaw at the bustling Rupali Square in Odisha’s capital city around noon on Saturday.
According to sources, the bus on Route No 32 rear-ended the auto-rickshaw, propelling it forward into a school bus that had halted at the traffic junction. The auto-rickshaw was severe
ly mangled, trapped between the vehicles. Two female students were reportedly travelling the auto. While the auto driver and one of the occupants died on the spot, the other was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
Following the accident, enraged locals and passersby staged a road blockade on Vani Vihar–Saheed Nagar stretch, causing major traffic snarls for several hours. They alleged that the driver and helper of ‘Ama Bus’ fled the scene instead of helping the victims. Soon, Bhubaneswar DCP along with personnel from Sahid Nagar police station arrived at the spot to pacify the agitators and restore order.
Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
