Malkangiri: In a major breakthrough, BSF personnel and local police unearthed two arms dumps of Maoists and seized explosives from Bhejangwada reserve forest in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday.
Based on intelligence inputs, the personnel of Bodigata BSF camp, MV-21 BSF camp and district police launched a search operation in the forest. During the operation, the security forces came across the dumps of Maoist arms and ammunitions at two places.
The arms seized from the dumps included 7 SBML guns, two tiffin bombs, 4 hand grenades, a cylinder, electric wires and Maoist materials.
The Maoists are suspected to have stocked their arms and explosives to be used against security forces operating in Bhejangwada forest, BSF sources said.
It may be noted that Bhejangwada forest was a Maoist stronghold for some time. Due to intensive operation and repeated raids by security forces, the Maoist activities have come down drastically in the area.
