Two Members Of Inter-State Jamtara Gang Arrested For Cyber Crime In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The cyber team of Crime Branch arrested two members of inter-state Jamtara gang in the city on Saturday.

According to sources, the Crime Branch, which has been investigating the cyber crime cases committed by the gang for nearly two years, made the breakthrough after being tipped off regarding the two members in the capital city.

Following an elaborate plan, the Crime Branch personnel arrested the two accused who have been managed to give a slip to the police on several occasions. The police did not reveal their identity due to ongoing investigation.

The Jharkhand-based Jamtara gang, which operates across India, has a large network in Bhubaneswar also. It has been active in cities having a strong internet use to dupe the people through cyber crime.

The gang’s criminal activities have been reported from Bharatpur in Rajasthan, Gurgaon in Haryana, Kolkata and Asansol in West-Bengal and Varanasi and Jalapaur in Uttar Pradesh, the sources said.

In 2020, the Commissionerate Police had released a video warning the people of Bhubaneswar of the gang’s activities. The video showed a gang member demanding the ATM number from a State Bank of India (SBI) customer and threatening him for not doing so.
