Bhubaneswar: Two more COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Puri district on Sunday.
Puri had reported its maiden case on April 3 and the patient has since recovered from the disease. The new cases, a duo who returned from neighbouring state of West Bengal, which has strong links with Puri, came a day after construction of chariots for Lord Jagannath’s annual Rath Yatra started and all eyes are on the Pilgrim Town.
Since the district was in green zone, the members of Jagannath Temple Managing Committee had earlier suggested holding the Rath Yatra with limited participation with entry points to the district sealed.
The administration is trying its best to keep the carpenters and servitors associated with Rath construction safe.
While allowing the chariot construction work amid lockdown, the Centre last week left the decision of holding Rath Yatra on the Odisha government.
The Rath Yatra is scheduled to begin from June 23.
