Kandhamal: Barely 24 hours after an encounter in Balangir district in which two Maoist cadres were killed, four ultras were gunned down by SOG personnel in Kandhamal district late on Sunday afternoon.
Following a tip-off that some Maoists were conducting a meeting of the tribals at Golanki village inside Sudukumpa forest, the district police launched a combing operation.
Seeing the security personnel advance, the Maoists started firing indiscriminately to which the former retaliated. In the exchange of fire, two Maoists were reportedly killed.
However, there was no casualty among SOG jawans, the police said.
The exchange of fire was still on till filing of the reports.
