Bhubaneswar: A Nigerian couple was arrested from New Delhi on Saturday in connection with a case in which a man from Odisha’s Balasore district was allegedly honey trapped and duped of Rs 30 lakh, reports said.
The fresh arrest was made two weeks after a Nigerian youth was nabbed form Delhi by the cyber police for allegedly luring and duping a resident of Balia in Balasore district of Rs 30 lakh, they said.
The arrested youth had been identified as Samson Imoko Alika, a Nigeria resident, and the police had seized two mobile phones, a laptop and a passport from him.
Police sources said the complaint regarding a honeytrap and fraud transactions was registered on January 13.
The victim came in contact with a woman reportedly from the United Kingdom through Facebook and later exchanged texts on WhatsApp, they said adding she informed him about having sent gifts, including gold biscuits, a Rolex watch and an iPhone. A person identifying himself as a customs officer at Delhi airport then asked him to make payment of duty to receive the gifts.
The victim kept transferring lakhs of rupees but never got the gifts. It was then that he realised that he had been trapped and duped, police said.
Following the arrest of the youth, efforts had been stepped up for nabbing more people involved in the case and the couple was nabbed now, they added.
