Bhubaneswar: Surat Police have arrested to persons, including a minor, from Udala in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district for allegedly stealing an idol worth over Rs 7 lakh from an under-construction Jain temple at Piplod.
The arrested has been identified as Chandan Mallik.
According to sources, a 28 carat diamond was embedded in the idol carved out of a granite muguni stone and embellished with wires made of gold. The duo were engaged in the construction of the temple and fled with the idol around 1.30 pm on August 28. The entire crime was captured on CCTV camera installed there.
During investigation, police got the address of the accused from the contractor and nabbed the duo with the help of their Odisha counterparts here. The minor was later sent to a remand home.
