Balangir: Two migrant labourers from Odisha’s Balangir died after falling from a train near Chennai while on their way to Kerala for work.
The deceased, identified as Umesh Pandey and Kunu Banchhor, were in their early 20 and hailed from Hatisalapada within Town police limits.
According to sources, local spotted the bodies on the railway tracks near Perambur railway station on Friday and informed the government railway police (GRP). The identity of the deceased was ascertained through their Aadhaar cards, following which police informed their family members at Hatisalapada.
Investigation revealed that the two fell on the tracks having dozed off while sitting on the footboard of the train, leading to their death. There were injury marks on heads, hands and limbs. The bodies have been kept at KMC Hospital, Kilpauk.
Sources, quoting family members, further stated that the duo had left home on January 1, saying that they would be working in a spinning mill. Both Kunu and Umesh had earlier gone to Tirupur in Chennai and Kerala on several occasions for work.
They, however, suspect that the duo was murdered in a pre-planned manner and have lodged a a murder complaint, pressing for a thorough investigation to determine the truth behind their deaths.
