Bargarh: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday conducted raids on the offices and residences of two officials of water irrigation department in Bargarh district.
Assistant engineer of Bhawanipatna Lift Irrigation Division Rasananda Majhi and assistant engineer of Rengali Canal Sub-Division Ghanashyam Seth have been accused of amassing properties disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Five teams of the anti-corruption agency carried simultaneous raids at five places, including Majhi’s office at Narla, his residence in Bargarh and relatives’ houses.
Similarly, vigilance officials also raided Seth’s office at Rengali, his two-storey residence, houses of his in-laws and his parental house at Chikiti in the district.
During raids, several important official documents and bank-related papers were verified.
The exact amount of disproportionate assets will be revealed after searches are complete and further action initiated accordingly, an official informed.
Refuting the allegation, Seth said, “I have been working since 2 years and took loans. I always pay my income tax regularly.”
