Sonepur: An STF team has rescued a pangolin and seized 5.65 kg of pangolin scales during a raid near Rajakothi in Sonepur district. Two persons were also arrested in this regard.
The accused were identified as Somnath Bag and Marsalan Bhengera, both residents of Ulundu in the district.
According to police, they received a tipoff that two wildlife smugglers were about to strike a deal to sell a live pangolin and pangolin scales on Friday. Following this, the STF team raided a hideout and arrested the two accused.
The duo will be forwarded to a court on Saturday.
Police said the seized scales will be sent to Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun for chemical examination and the live pangolin will be handed over to forest officials.
