Two Police Officers Suspended For Assaulting Man In Custody

Jagatsinghpur: Two police officers were suspended for allegedly assaulting a man at a police station in Jagatsinghpur district.

The officers identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Rabindra Senapati and constable Siba Jani were suspended on the direction of SP (Jagatsinghpur) Prakash R.

According to the complainant Lingaraj Das of Odisso village, he was detained by the policemen by accusing him of misbehaving with a woman sarpanch of Odisso panchayat. Though he pleaded innocence, the duo abused and assaulted him at the police station, Das alleged.

The victim also alleged that the two police officers threatened to lodge a false case against him under SC and ST Atrocity Act for misbehaving with the lady sarpanch, who belongs to the SC category.

Further investigation into the matter is on.
