Baripada: Two students were critically injured after being attacked by an unidentified miscreant at Saraskana in Mayurbhanj district early on Sunday.
According to sources, the incident took place around 4:30 am. A Class VI student of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir, identified as Sandeep Hansda, who was staying in the hostel 0f the school, had gone to attend nature’s call to a nearest bushy area. An unknown person suddenly approached before him and slit his throat with a sharp weapon.
Hearing his screams, one of Hansda’s inmates named Manoj Mahanta (Class-IX) rushed to the spot. He was also attacked by the miscreant.
The duo was immediately rushed to a Saraskana hospital and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital for better treatment. The condition of Sandeep is stated to be serious as he sustained critical injury on his neck.
The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
An FIR has been lodged by the school authorities at the local police station. The matter is being investigated by police.
