Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed by security forces in a counter-terror operation named ‘Operation Pimple’ in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara. The operation is continuing and a search of the area is in progress to flush out more terrorists.
“On November 7, based on specific intelligence input from agencies, regarding infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged which resulted in the terrorists opening indiscriminate fire,” the Army’s Chinar Corps said in a statement.
This is the time of the year when the movement of terrorists increase close to the Line of Control (LoC) and the forested areas of the state. Terrorists make an effort to cross over the LoC before the routes get blocked due to the snow. Those who have already entered also try to move to shelters to avoid getting caught in inclement weather.
Chhatru in the Kishtwar district of the state where terrorists have been very active over the last several months. On Wednesday, an Indian Army paratrooper sustained injuries during a shootout between terrorists and security forces in that area.
The encounter started after troops launched an operation in the Kalaban forest area based on specific intelligence inputs. The injured soldier was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
“Based on intelligence inputs and in coordination with J&K Police, alert troops of White Knight Corps made contact with terrorists in the Chhatru area,” the White Knight Corps posted on X.
Officials have said that security forces and police have intensified anti-terror operations across Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts, leading to multiple encounters in recent months – including nearly six in Kishtwar alone over the past half year.
In April, two terrorists were neutralised by security forces during an operation in the same Chhatru area. Earlier, on August 11-12, terrorists managed to escape after an exchange of fire with security personnel.
