Puri: Two devotees were injured after a pickup van rammed into them near Nandighosha Rath of Lord Jagannath in Puri on Monday.
The injured have been identified as Baijayant Sahu and Girish Sahu of Angul. While Baijayant suffered a fracture in his left leg, Girish sustained severe injuries on his hands.
According to sources, the driver of the pickup van suffered a seizure and lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the barricades and hit the tourists. Though the accident took place close to Nandighosha Rath of Lord Jagannath, it was spared.
The devotees and the driver, identified as Asit Kumar Jena, were admitted to the district headquarters hospital here. Jena was later detained by police.
