Bhubaneswar: Following the drowning of a minor boy at a swimming pool in a private club here, two trainers were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty.
The boy, Sandip Sahu, went deep into the water and could not come back during a swimming class at the club on June 4.
“Action was taken against the trainers for negligence. The deceased was neither registered for the swimming lesson nor was he a member of the club. Then, how could he enter the club’s swimming pool; the trainers are responsible for it,” a senior office bearer of the club clarified.
On the other hand, the boy’s mother claimed: “My son had taken admission for the swimming class 15 days earlier. But they were yet to register his name.”
She alleged that the incident was a plot to murder her son and police were dragging their feet on the investigation. “Even five days after the incident, the police are yet to give me the FIR copy. We have also not received the post mortem report yet,” she added.
However, police said they have prepared the FIR copy. “Sandip’s family members can take the FIR copy any time,” a police officer said.
Meanwhile, the circumstances under which Sandip died and who was training him are yet to be ascertained.
The club authorities courted controversy for missing footage in the CCTV camera and about the presence of others at the time of the mishap.
Sandip, who lived in Dumduma area here, had keen interest in swimming and wanted to become a national level swimmer, his family said.
