Two Trains Involved In Accident In Andhra, Overshooting Of Signal Likely Cause, Says ECoR

Bhubaneswar: The train accident near Palasa in Andhra Pradesh is suspected to have been caused by overshooting of signal.

The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the East Coast Railway (ECoR), in a release, said two trains were involved in the incident that took place between Alamanda and Kantakapalle stations in Vizianagaram-Kottavalasa Railway Section of Waltair Division of ECoR at about 7 pm.

08532 Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train and 08504 Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special met the accident. Two coaches of Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train from the rear and the loco of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger got derailed.

Citing human error as the likely reason of the accident, the CPRO said overshooting of signal by Visakhapatnam- Rayagada Passenger train might have led to derailment.

The official said tescue operations are underway under supervision of DRM, Waltair and his team. Accident relief trains have been rushed to the spot and rescue equipment have been engaged to help the passengers.
