Angul: Two persons, including a woman, were trampled to death by a wild elephant at Chandgudia village under Kaniha forest range in Angul district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Ahalya Sahu (50) and Babula Sahu (24).
The duo was on their way to a nearby agricultural field when the animal strayed into the human habitation and attacked them.
Following the incident, the villagers demanded appropriate measures to prevent elephants from entering human settlements and agricultural fields.
Meanwhile, forest and police personnel reached the spot and started investigation. They assured the locals that effective steps will be taken to prevent man-animal conflict in the area.
