Bhawanipatna: In a fresh instance of security lapse, two under-trial prisoners (UTPs) escaped from the district jail at Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi.
As per preliminary reports, the two UTPs escaped from the jail on Saturday night and the matter came to light on Sunday. The two have been identified as Sikandar Jal and Nilamani Majhi.
Both of them were arrested in connection with a case under the POCSO Act and were lodged in the district jail at Bhawanipatna.
It is suspected that both UTPs escaped from the jail after scaling the boundary wall of the jail. The incident has raised eyebrows as there were watchtowers to keep a strict vigil at the prison.
The Bhawanipatna Town police have launched an investigation into the incident while efforts are on to trace and nab the two.
In March, two under-trial prisoners (UTPs), who were arrested on charges of murder, had reportedly escaped from Titilagarh sub-jail in Balangir. The jail warder was subsequently suspended for dereliction of duty.
