Two Women Maoists Surrender Before Police DGP In Odisha’s Koraput Dist

Koraput/Malkangiri: Two women Maoists surrendered before Director General of Police Abhay who was on a visit to the districts in the presence of Vigilance director Lalit Dash, IG Operations Amitabh Thakur and Southern-Western DIG Rajesh Pandit and other top  officials on Sunday.

According to sources, Gumma area committee member Deva Padiami alias Gangi Padiami and Gita Padiami alias Rajita surrendered to the police. Deva who joined the Kalimela groups of Maoists in 2005 was involved in at least seven incidents of violence. She had worked in Machhkund and Gumma areas in 2008 after learning use of guns. She was promoted to the rank of area commander in 2020 and supervised Maoist activities of Andhra-Odisha special border zonal mililtary committee, said the DGP.

Similarly, Gita Padiami joined the Maoist movement in 2018 and worked as member of Dandakaranya Military Natya Mandali. She was involved in four incidents of violence with the police. Hailing from Manikar under Gangler station in Bijapur district, she had worked Swabhiman anchal and peda Bailu area of Andhra Pradesh.

Disappointed by Maoist ideology and the attractive package offered by the State Government, she has decided to surrender to the police.

Earlier, Abhay reached Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district by a helicopter to inaugurate a police station at Jodamba BSF camp and then went to Kalimela where he inaugurated a three-storey police station building. Later, he reached office of Malkangiri superintendent of police where he held a closed-door meeting with BSF and police officials.
