Berhmapur: Two youths reportedly died due to lightning strike while they were standing under a tree in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
According to sources, the youths, identified as Dubur Pradhan of Nirakarpur and Santanu Pradhan of Pilasar in the district, were engaged as labourers in Meena Bazaar which has opened at Gandhi Chhak in Patapur of Berhampur.
After working since morning, they had lunch under a nearby mango tree and were taking rest there when northwesterly struck the area. As strong wind started blowing along with rain and lightning, they could not go anywhere and remained under the tree.
A lightning struck the tree and Dubur and Santanu standing under it. On its impact, both collapsed there unconscious. Later, some local people saw them and called the police.
A team from Patapur police station went to the spot and sent Dubur and Santanu in an ambulance to local hospital. But the doctors in the hospital declared them brought dead.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
