Uber Shocker: 3500 Employees Sacked Over A 3-Minute Zoom Call

With the Covid-19 global pandemic stalling economies all over the world, employers are firing people left, right and centre.

What Uber, however, has done, won’t have many parallels.

Incredulous as it may sound, Uber sacked 3,500 employees over a three-minute Zoom call. That amounts to 14% of its workforce.

According to a report in Daily Mail, Uber’s customer service head Ruffin Chaveleau had the unenviable job of conveying the shocking news.

“We are eliminating 3,500 frontline customer support roles. Your role is impacted and today will be your last working day with Uber,” she reportedly told the employees.

Chaveleau broke down while delivering the news, and thanked the employees for their hard work, the report adds.

Uber issued a statement saying that since their cab-rides business has been slashed by half, they don’t have enough work for customer support employees and had no option but to let them go.
