Mumbai: Abhishek Ghosalkar, former corporator of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), was shot dead at Borivali in suburban Mumbai on Thursday evening allegedly by Mauris Noronha, a local ‘social activist’ and old rival, during a social media live video session.
Noronha, known as “Mauris bhai” in Mumbai’s Borivali, later shot himself fatally.
According to reports, Abhishek, who is son of party’s former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, and Noronha had recently patched up and were at the Facebook live together at the latter’s office in IC Colony in the northern suburb of Borivali (West). Noronha presented himself on social media as an award-winning social worker, a Covid warrior, and a philanthropist. The duo then told their audience that they have resolved all their past disputes and were in good terms.
In the four-minute 26-second video of the live video session, which has gone viral, a total five bullets were heard to have been fired at Abhishek. He was shot in the abdomen and shoulder and died during treatment at nearby Karuna Hospital.
Noronha was later found dead. He is believed to have shot himself.
“Both Abhishek and Mauris succumbed to their injuries. Abhishek’s body will be taken to Sir JJ Hospital for postmortem, while Mauris’ body will be taken to Cooper Hospital. We will share more details later,” a senior IPS officer was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
The attack came days after Maharashtra witnessed CCTV camera footage of a BJP MLA opening fire inside a police station in neighbouring Thane district.
