Uddhav Thackeray Reappoints Himself As Saamana Editor

Mumbai: Relieved of the duties of Maharashtra’s chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray has reappointed himself as the editor of Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.

The newspaper’s print line mentioned Thackeray’s name as editor and that of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut as executive editor on Friday.

Raut, under an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into an alleged money-laundering case, is under the agency’s custody.

Saamana was launched in 1989, with Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray as its editor. Following his passing away in 2012, Uddhav was appointed as his successor.

Uddhav stepped down after becoming chief minister of Maharashtra in 2019, and was replaced by his wife Rashmi.

Now that he has been ousted from the ‘hot seat’ in a revolt led by Eknath Shinde in June, Uddhav has decided to get back as editor of the paper.
