Bhubaneswar: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved establishment of Bhima Bhoi Chair in Delhi University and Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur.
In a letter to Delhi University, Jitendra Tripathy, joint secretary, UGC, said, “I would like to draw your kind attention to the proposal submitted by University of Delhi, Delhi for establishment of Chair in the name of Bhima Bhoi Chair
which was considered and approved by the Commission at its meeting held on March 10. It is to inform that the university may create the Chair by utilising the already available vacant positions.”
Union Education Minister welcomed the UGC decision to set up Bhima Bhoi Chairs in Delhi University (DU) and Guru Ghasidas University (GGU) at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh.
In a tweet, the minister said the establishment of Chairs will help promote the contributions of Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi to Odia literature. “The literary creations of the great poet and follower of Mahima cult can now be brought under the domain of research and further analysis,” he said.
Pradhan further said the literature and philosophy of Bhima Bhoi highly influenced the socio-cultural ethos of Odia people. He had directed UGC to take up further research into the poet’s literary works following his visit to Rairakhol on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti last year, he added.
